Default Automation Engineer (BOSTON, MA)

Description:
CryoXtract Instruments, LLC is looking for a results-driven, customer-focused Automation Engineer who will help propose, research, plan, design, commission, and maintain mechanical and electromechanical systems for the Laboratory Automation Industry. You will provide the team with technical expertise required to generate practical solutions and will have significant customer interaction, helping articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users. The position represents a full-time opportunity to take responsibility to solve real customer problems in a dynamic start-up environment. The positioned is based in Boston. Travel will be required.

Responsibilities:
The Automation Engineer will enjoy exposure to all aspects of mechanical and software design and development working closely with automation experts to bring new products used in critical laboratory research from prototype into production and support those systems in the field. Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Interact with customers at an early stage, understanding requirements and giving presentations
  • Define technical solutions for system development, completing tasks and projects requiring delivery within tight timescales and budgets under the direction of the assigned lead
  • Generate detailed designs and drawings
  • Problem solving, testing and troubleshooting, and system enhancement
  • Assembly, installation, training and support of electro-mechanical systems
  • Support transition system from prototype to production, transferring designs to manufacture through liaison with external suppliers
Requirements:
  • B.S. degree in mechanical, industrial, electrical engineering or equivalent with a minimum of four (4) to ten (10) years experience in automation engineering, preferably in lab automation. Additional prior experience as Sales Engineer, Application Engineer, Field Consultant would be a plus
  • Proven track record of supporting automation solutions involving mechanisms and electrical/electronic systems
  • Demonstrated track record of solving challenging and complex analytical problems
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary projects (mechanics, electronics, software)
  • Successful track record in project management
  • Experience using computers for engineering calculations, familiarity with modeling tools, MS Visio and Project, and computer interfacing for systems set-up, troubleshooting and debugging
  • Knowledge of assembly and manufacture processes from one-off designs and prototype to high-volume manufacture
  • Strong professional presentation and written communication skills
  • Object-oriented programming language design experience a plus (C#, LabVIEW)
