Job description
As an Informatics Application Scientist you will provide technical and scientific support for R&D scientists using MedImmune's bespoke Informatics Systems. You will provide application level administrative support and troubleshoot data-tracking problems in the lab as well as manage the initiation of new projects and scientists in the use of MedImmune's Informatics Systems. Working closely with scientists you will identify and capture requirements in support of new and existing screening technologies and methods. As a key member of the Informatics Team you will assist in the development and improvement of key in-house informatics solutions enabling MedImmune to create world leading biologics therapies.


Job duties include but are not limited to:
• Provide technical and scientific support to drug discovery scientists on all Informatics systems
• Provide application level administrative support and troubleshoot data-tracking problems in the lab
• Manage the initiation of new projects and scientists in the use of Informatics systems
• Work with scientists to identify and capture new requirements in support of new and existing screening technologies and methods
• Contribute to the continuous development and improvement of Informatics solutions in support of MedImmune’s drug development initiatives
• Some travel required to support other MedImmune facilities, primarily in California and will also have opportunities to visit Cambridge UK.
Qualifications and Experience:
• B.Sc. degree in biological sciences with 2 years practical laboratory experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, ideally in a biochemical/biological screening environment.
• Hands-on biochemical or cell biology screening experience highly desirable
• Hands-on laboratory automation/liquid handling experience desirable
• Excellent analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills required
• Prepared to pro-actively engage with wide range of scientific staff
• Proven ability to work with minimal supervision, be proactive and work on own initiative
• Excellent computer skills and an ability to continually absorb new ideas, technologies and techniques
• An interest in, or experience of, software development desirable but not essential
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
