   2011 NE LRIG Teacher Fellowship

INTRODUCTION

Up to $2,000 will be awarded in 2011 to those science teachers in public Schools throughout New England who best meet the criteria below.  The objective of this grant is to provide funds to expand project based activities during their laboratory periods.  We believe hands on activities will increase enthusiasm among students and demonstrate the fun side of learning science.

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

·         Applicants must be public school teachers in New England, teaching grades 8-12, in science, math, or a related subject.

·         Each applicant is required to submit a proposal which includes

1.   A summary statement describing the proposed project to be initiated and the unique educational experience that students will receive by completing the project

2.   A lesson plan highlighting the scope and sequence of activities and which lists the goals, objectives and competencies that will be introduced.  The plan should focus on the activities that the student will participate in to acquire further knowledge and skills in the particular area or concept.

3.   A description of the main lab activity

4.   A list of needed materials

5.   An assessment criterion which will provide evidence that the students have arrived at the intended destination

               dEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION IS October 14, 2011.

 

Applications will be assessed on the following criteria:

·         The degree of scientific and technology concepts introduced

·         The perceived ability of the program to enhance students learning of scientific and technical concepts

·         The breadth of the student population impacted

·         Quality and thoughtfulness of the written proposal
